Please, join us in giving a warm welcome to Johanna Salmela as our new landscape architect in our Helsinki Office.

Johanna brings a wealth of expertise and a deep passion for landscape architecture, which she sees as a vital tool in addressing today’s pressing challenges.

“It is great to be part of solving today’s challenges, such as the environmental issues brought by climate change, the loss of biodiversity, public health, and social issues – just to name a few – through the tools of landscape architecture. I believe that landscape architecture and landscape architects are at the heart of these issues, bringing professionals from different disciplines to the same table and translating new research into practice,” says Johanna.

Johanna joins us with more than two decades of experience from the horticulture and green sector. She has worked in the municipal sector over 25 years, as a gardener, horticulturist, landscape designer and landscape architect.

Furthermore, Johanna has an impressive list of educational degrees in her resume, which include a landscape architect master’s degree from Aalto University, a university level horticulturist degree, and she is also educated as a gardener.

Johanna will be involved in the Töölönlahdenpuisto project and the construction plan for Maatulli Park. Additionally, she will contribute with quality assurance, brainstorming, and plant selection for our projects at the Helsinki office.

Asked why she choose to join MASU Planning Johanna highlights our unique approach as one of the main reasons.

“A few years ago, I had the pleasure of being involved in a project where MASU Plan was the consultant. The distinctive, fresh approach and high quality of their work made a great impression on me. When I had the opportunity to join the team, I was of course eager to do so,” she explains.

Johanna resides in Helsinki during the week and balances her professional life with a family and home in Turku. In her spare time, she enjoys restoring her house and garden and spending time with family and friends.
