The town of Viby is growing. With the new neighbourhoods come new types of housing, urban structures and new types of residents, and this creates a need for a community gathering place. Our proposal for a new library and culture house in Viby, is a subtle building and square, that in scale and architecture continue the character of the historic street and thereby preserve the appearance of a coherent town centre.
The building and new town square provide the framework for a strong local community. The library and culture house will be the centre of daily life and the natural place to arrange town gatherings. High-quality materials are used to create an urban space that will last for generations. A warm brick pavement defines the flexible town square, trees create more intimate areas and five large brick or wooden plinths creates multiple stay options.
